I'm so excited to finally share this fun recipe collaboration with Good People Brewing Company with you! This recipe combines two of my favorite things: pumpkin spice & local fair. Most of you know that beer is something I indulge in occasionally, so when I decide to have one, I want it to be really delicious and high quality. Bearded Lady hits the spot! It's by far my favorite local beer and it goes perfectly with the flavors of the season. This bread uses spelt flour, orange zest, and DAK'S pumpkin spice which all bring out the subtle citrus flavors of the beer. Pumpkin seeds &...

In August, I shared all kinds of fun information with you about "seed cycling". Let's refresh! Seed cycling is when you consume about a tbs a day of certain seeds based on where you are in your cycle. Menstrual phase: pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, and chestnuts. Follicular phase: cashews, pumpkin seeds, and flax seeds. Ovulatory phase: almonds, pecans, pistachios, and sesame seeds. Luteal phase: sesame seeds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds. This is not an exhaustive list, simply a highlight of some of the nuts and seeds. Seed cycling is thought to: help balance hormones reduce pms symptoms help...

Seed cycling is all the rage and for a good reason! If you haven't read the book, Woman Code by Alisa Vitti , then GET ON IT! This book has totally transformed how I view my period and improved my body acceptance by leaps and bounds. This book talks all about the female endocrine system and how the foods we put into our bodies effect our hormones. That sentence may have sounded a little boring, but I promise this book isn't! This book was my first introduction to the concept of eating certain foods according to which cycle my body is in. For each phase there are seeds and nuts listed that...

Editing bright & vibrant food photos

When I first started editing my photos I felt overwhelmed, anxious, & straight up stressed out! All of the tutorials I found online were so technical and confusing. "Before you can tell me what to do with the saturation and color range, would you please tell me what in the world those are?" I didn't give up though. Because I knew that well edited photos were the best way to attract my dream clients. I knew if I could make healthy food look irresistable it would be worth all of the frustration and struggle. After several years of research and practice, (oh, and crying, lots of crying when...

Beautiful hand-made spoon by Michelle Leach Pottery I have been preoccupied with some serious stuff in my family the last two months. I haven't had the time to share recipes or photography tips with you guys the way I would like. So this week, I'm working hard to create some fun new content. And first on the list is this fruit-free smoothie bowl! Some days, I crave a smoothie, but I just don't crave the flavor of all that fruit- so sometimes I just use veggies!

Spring is here! And with it comes fragrant, edible florals of all shapes and sizes. One of my favorites is honeysuckle. As a little girl I remember playing in the garden with my little brother. We would pluck the perfectly ripe, deep yellow honeysuckle from its stem, gently tug on the bottom of the flower, and gently pull the string through until the tiny dot of honey hit our tongues bursting with the promise of Summer just around the corner. Each time I step outside, the smell gently reminds me of simpler days filled with laughter and adventure. This cocktail combines fragrant orange blossom...

On March 20, 2014 I wrote my first healthy recipe post. In an attempt to heal my migraines and anxiety, I had started reading & learning all I could about nourishing foods. I watched a documentary on juicing, bought a juicer, and juiced regularly for about a year. I noticed some health benefits, but I wanted more. I began to look into the “clean eating” trend and decided to do an 80/20 diet starting in 2014. And my blog was born from this journey. As I continued to learn alternative healthy ingredients to substitute in recipes, I found that I loved taking photos of my recipes too. As I...

You eat healthy. You love telling others about eating healthy. Creating recipes that are both tasty and nutritious is important to you. But, sometimes when you go to snap a picture on your iPhone you are frustrated at how it turns out. I know this feeling all too well. The first few years of my photography journey were this exactly. I would make the most nutrient-rich food that tasted fantastic, and when I would go to share it with the world, I felt completely let down that my photos didn't convey the true awesomeness of the recipe. So today, I'm going to tell you 3 things I wish someone had...

Lime and coconut martini

This whimsy cocktail is the perfect way to welcome Spring. The sweet & sour flavors of lime & coconut will have you in the mood for warmer weather instantly! Even when indulging, it's important to me to use as many natural ingredients as possible. I turned to my trusty La Croix sparkling water , Stirrings simple syrup , & fresh lime juice. Beets are one of my favorite foods to use when I need to add a pink tint to any food or drink. It only takes a tiny amount of cooked beet to add the color which makes the flavor virtually undetectable. I snagged some violets growing wild in the...
