I come from a long line of courageous women. Strong-willed, independent, and bold. These qualities run deep in my blood. As I begin to take steps toward dreaming bigger than I ever have, it is the knowledge of those who came before me that propels me forward. Working with my hands in the kitchen takes me back to being a young girl, watching Grandmama bake. Tiny moments can empower us, if west them.

The internet is saturated with advice on the subject of food photography. Want to learn how to take a picture of cereal using elmer's glue? There's a youtube video for that. Want to learn how to snap of photo with all the ingredients of a hamburger flying through the air like on a commercial? There's a video for that. But, my guess is that if you've landed on the Spiffy Eats page, that's not your goal. If your goals are more along the lines of taking a stunning photo of that green smoothie recipe you just created or that vegan quinoa burger you can't wait to share with your readers, then you'...

Four years ago if someone asked me to share a photo of my workspace I would have been horrified. I had no desk, no camera equipment, no food photography props, no planner! Scary, right? But, when I look back on those times, they hold some of the best memories. Those were the days that I was simiply using my iPhone camera to snap photos of the healthy recipes I was creating. I'd snuggle up in my bed to write blog posts and share my unedited photos. It was pure, it was honest, and it was the beginning of this beautiful life I'm living now. I'm so grateful that as my business has grown I've had...

While I believe Christmas is so much more than the materialistic things, I think it’s ok to dream of exciting things to add to my home and business. I also want to acknowledge my privilege as someone who has the means to have all of my basic essentials and even occasionally splurge. I know everyone doesn’t have that privilege. We donate and volunteer with organizations that help meet the needs of families in our area, and that will be in a future holiday post. Now, on the Spiffy wish list! KitchenAid Food Processor C’mon, you guys knew you’d see something from KitchenAid on this list. And...

I hope you had an incredibly cozy, loving, and joyful Thanksgiving holiday! I sure did. Tony's family sure knows how to cook and I ate sooo much. While I have ZERO shame or regret about what or how much delicious food I enjoyed, I could tell that today my body was craving some crips, raw veggies and I knew this slaw recipe created by Emilie Maynor would totally hit the spot! This slaw is packed with cruncy, nutritious veggies including one of my favorites- parsley. Parsey has lots of health benefits: it's packed with vitamin K, vitamin C, and Vitamin A rich in anti-oxidant nutrients promotes...

I've been learning so much about my hormones this year and I'm truly amazed at how much food effects them. The book Woman Code by Alissa Vitta has been an amazing resource. It taught me that incorporating certain foods during different phases of my cycle helps balance my hormones! And it's so simple to add in these foods. For example, during the Luteal Phase (the week and a half before your period) our bodies experience a surge of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. And the symptoms of PMS occur when our estrogen is too high compared to our progesterone. Foods that help the liver detox...
