Nothing informs my senses of the arrival of Fall more than the aroma of apples baking with cinnamon. Combine that with the inviting smell of bacon and your family will be running to the kitchen to find out what you're making! This recipe is warm, savory and sweet. The addition of gouda makes for a creamy side dish everyone will love.

The Fall weather is starting to sneak in, your herbs are starting to dwindle away. What can you do? If you love the idea of being able to grab fresh rosemary, mint, or lemon balm even in the dead of winter, keep reading. Let me start by saying, I am new to gardening. I have been gardening for the last two years and I absolutely love it! I have had some great success ( my first cabbage made it through 5 degree temps and was delicious) and some failures (every tomato I tried to grow heat rotted before ever turning red). But, after reading this helpful post from 17 Apart , I am completely...

I haven't done a fitness post in a while. To be honest, most of my summer fintess has consisted of outdoor adventures with the dog. I do not follow a specific fitness plan during the summer because I know that I will get outside and be active every chance I get! Todd and I at The Preserve doing some waterfall hiking! Over the last few weeks, that has changed. Why? I AM TRAINING FOR A 5K! String up the banners, give me a cookie, all the above. I am extremely proud of myself. In my opinion, it does not matter how big or small your healthy living goals are. It only matters that you set them and...

All-natural Candles- Shop Local

When it comes to household items, I do my best to choose natural items in all cases. My usual all-purpose cleaner, white vinegar, water and lemon essential oil. I use it to clean my kitchen counters, floors and bathroom! Candles have always been a struggle for me. I am lured in by all of the sweet smells of the big name brands who make promises of spring rain, pumpkin spice, gingerbread houses and the like. Yet, the thought of putting harmful chemicals into the air that my family and I breathe really bothers me. I have attempted a few different brands of natural candles, only to be...

Let me start by saying, this time of year can be super stressful! For those of you with children, going back to school is a very hectic time. For those of you who work retail, back to school is insanely busy! College students, trust me I understand! The next few weeks can truly effect the way you eat. As we get busy, it is so tempting to grab poptarts, cereal, or other sugary foods as a quick alternative to healthy eating. How can you avoid this trap? FOOD PREP! Food prep sounds way more daunting than it should. It evokes images of 50 plastic tupaware containers filled with chicken you need...

Pineapple Upside down cake is one of those traditional desserts that no one wants to give up, regardless of allergies or food sensitivites. This recipe combines a gluten free cake mix, fresh pineapple, grass-fed butter and coconut sugar. Oh, I also had some duck eggs and used them in place of chicken eggs. They made the cake so insanely fluffy!

Vegan Caribbean Jerk Marinade

I love Caribbean flavors in food. In American cuisine, it seems so often we place spices into one of two categories: savory or sweet. But, with Caribbean spices they do no such thing! I grew up thinking cinnamon was only used in desserts and salt was only used in savory foods. Boy, was I wrong! This simple marinade recipe combines aromatic spices and coconut milk! I chose to use it to marinate shrimp, but it would be great on any kind of meat or veggies, or used as a sauce on top of a veggie and quinoa bowl.

Welcome back to Monday Munchies! This time of year I absolutely love going to my local farmers market. One of my favorite things is to wake up early and get to the market before the crowds. I love strolling through the booths and seeing all of the beautiful hand made items, delicious produce and locally sourced eggs of all different colors. Now that it's June peaches are starting to show up at lots of the booths. Peaches hold a special place in my heart. As a child when I would travel to Rena Lara, Missippi we would walk down to my aunt's house and pick peaches from her orchard. I remember...

As I sit on my front porch this morning I hear birds chirping, train horns blowing, neighbors rushing off to work. I see my knock out roses, my azaleas, my mints, and my cottage flowers. It smells like Spring. I am extremely aware of the fact that today I am embarking on a new part of the journey. 30. My twenties are gone. Oh, what fun and turmoil those twenties were. So many bad decisions. But, I don't hate them. As the sun begins to peak through the clouds all around me, I am aware that 30 is a chance to start fresh. Leave my twenties in the dust. But, how could I? They taught me so much. I...

There is nothing like going home. This past weekend, I went to Rena Lara, Mississippi. Population- 97. This is one of the places I consider "home". My grandparents have lived here for over 80 years. Every Summer growing up, I remember our family trips to the Delta (the flat lands). We would wake up early to go fishing with grandad on a lake connected to the Mississippi River. We would play with our cousins, watch every Disney movie, and eat the best food in the world. My grandmother passed away a couple of years ago and I miss her so much. This visit last weekend, I had the opportunity to...
