There is nothing like the perfect cup of bright, chocolaty espresso made right in the neighborhood. This lovely new shop is called Woodlawn Cycle Cafe- combo handcrafted coffee bar/cyclist shop. The Euro-Industrial style cafe will have your heart yearning to snap photo after photo of this lovely space. They are serving up MapCap Coffee from Grand Rapids, Michigan and selling some pretty rad cycling gear. When I was a little girl, my mom and I would go into Christmas shops. I distinctly remember the smell of cinnamon being in each store. Sometimes the stores would have hot apple cider to sip as you shopped. Those were my favorite. The taste and smell of spicy cider brings me back to those amazing times. We first tried this drink at our friend's wedding and completely fell in love. The crisp taste of apples and the hint of cinnamon will have you in a festive mood right away.

Here in Alabama the weather is perfectly dreary. The wind is howling, the sky is a beatiful gray, and the rain comes and goes. This Autumn weather calls for a warm drink to sip as you cozy up and watch the leaves fall from the trees. Our recipe for Warm Brandy Apple Cider will make a marvelous companion for all of the brisk Autumn days ahead.

A new friend recently told me about a drink called Switchel. I had never heard of it before, but he boasted of its health benefits and delightful flavor, so I was intrigued. Switchel originates as an Amish tradition. The drink is used to quench thirst and aid in electrolyte balance during harvest time. Switchel typically consists of vinegar and ginger. Sometimes honey or molasses are added. I chose to use my Champion juicer and juice 6 apples, 1 carrot, and 1 small piece of fresh ginger. I then added 1/4 cup of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon all spice, 3 teaspoons pure maple syrup, a couple sprinkles...

I woke up this morning with swollen, puffy eyes, stinging ears, and a headache. I don't think my body is as excited about the Birmingham Fall as I am. I thought about making my Immune Boosting Chicken Soup, but realized I do not have that kind of time today. After dragging myself into work two hours late, I did a little research on Golden Milk in between clients. Here is what I found out. Golden Milk is believed to: 1. Act fast as an anti-inflammatory 2. Improve brain functions 3. May reduce risk of heart disease and Alzheimers I decided to take it a step further and instead of using simply...

Spring is in the air! As the weather gets warmer, I still crave a warm cup of coffee in the morning. Right now we're brewing a local grind from Red Bike Coffee . It is devine! I recently became interested (maybe obsessed because of all the amazing health benefeits) with using pure, unrefined, organic coconut oil in everything! I found that it adds a very creamy flavor to my coffee without the use of any dairy products. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy locally vat processed, organic milk pretty often (Thank you Working Cow of Alabama ), but a dairy free option is always a nice change of pace. I...
