Hygge Winter Porridge

According to Louisa Thomson Brits from her book, The little book of hygge, "Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is a quality of presence and experience of belonging and togetherness. It is a feeling of being warm, safe, comforted, and sheltered."

Hygge is more than just blankets, fires, and cozy times spent with those you love. It is an intentional way of living your life to be more open to those around you, while still finding comfort and safety in the everyday still moments of solitude. It is far more complex than I can explain in one blog post, so consider this a brief introduction.

At my home I make an intentional effort to enjoy quiet moments, appreciate the company of friends, and practice hygge in various ways each day. One of those ways is through the food I prepare for myself.

Food can provide warmth, comfort, nourishment, and community. Today's recipe is focused on warmth.

This hearty bowl of traditional porridge invites you to slip on your coziest wool socks, grab your favorite book, and allow the warmth of this delightful bowl to envelope you body and soul.

I followed Jamie Oliver's instructions in this porridge video for the preparation portion. I was very happy with how simple the process was. Then as my topping I simply added a tablespoon of orange marmalade and a sprig of fresh rosemary.
