Luteal Phase Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

I've been learning so much about my hormones this year and I'm truly amazed at how much food effects them. The book Woman Code by Alissa Vitta has been an amazing resource. It taught me that incorporating certain foods during different phases of my cycle helps balance my hormones! And it's so simple to add in these foods.

For example, during the Luteal Phase (the week and a half before your period) our bodies experience a surge of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. And the symptoms of PMS occur when our estrogen is too high compared to our progesterone. Foods that help the liver detox excess estrogen include: carrots, cauliflower, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and more.

So, in an attempt to decrease my symptoms (Let's be honest, I'm trying to keep the hormone monster away, she's not a nice person haha), I'm making sure to include these specific veggies into my diet the next few days.

And that's where the idea for this Pumpkin Pie Smoothie came from!

Ingredients

3 T
Pumpkin Puree
1
carrot (I used a yellow carrot, and it was so sweet and yummy)
1⁄2 c
Frozen Cauliflower
1⁄2 c
ice
1 c
unsweetened non-dairy milk of choice (I used coconut milk and it was smooth and tasty)
1 t
Pure Maple Syrup (more or less depending on your preference)
1 T
flax seeds
1
optional toppings: pumpkin seeds, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, dried goji berries

Instructions

Blend all ingredients (except the toppings) on high until it creates a smoothe creamy texture.

Top with some crunchy goodies.

Enjoy!
